The idea for 'Surfakademin' was conceived on the legendary North Shore of Oahu, in the mid-90s, when Jens Holmer and Peter Sahlberg left their native Sweden to eat, sleep and breathe surf culture. Since the summer of 2006, Surfakademin has passionately crafted surf and yoga retreats across the globe, sharing the beauty of both the ocean and mindful living.

In 2026, they hosted in Essaouira, Morocco, for the first time. Owen joined them in North Africa to surf and practise yoga, but also to stay at an eco-lodge unplugged from modern technology, documenting days unshackled from screens.

As a photographer, his work has always looked at people and how they find a sense of belonging. Surfing has shaped Peter and Jens' attitude toward life, working with the flows of nature. For Owen, it was enlightening to see them share this over the time he spent with them.
