For his entire career, Owen has been chasing one thing: work that moves him. His latest commission for The Atlantic is no different. Following the story of Miriam Cabas, a young female bullfighter or Novilleros making a name for herself in both Spain and abroad.

Owen visited a bullring in Cadiz, Spain, to see her fight and witness her kill two bulls in her hometown.

Alongside her intense training regime, she is training to become a veterinarian. “Nobody loves bulls like us,” she said. “We devote our lives to them - if that’s not love, then what is?”

As photographer and director, Owen stands on the precipice between documentary and narrative. Crucially, he lets the subjects of his film tell their own stories in a tradition that is ever growing in controversy. As a growing number of Spanish citizens turn their backs on Bullfighting, Owen approaches the subject with warmth and humanity, placing us in the arena alongside those on both sides of the debate.
