A homage to Jessica’s heritage and the lack of visibility of black Scots – it is mainly a document that explores a positive and multidimensional account of black masculine identity. Research showed that whilst black men are often streamlined into negative and binary stereotypes, when collecting various accounts of what black masculinity means to black men aged 16-80 – the resonating key themes were brotherhood, family values, kinship cultural appreciation and role models and most importantly staying true to one’s self. It was then that Jessica drew the parallels between the meaning of the Clan in Scotland and black masculinity, and the polarisation of the actual term.
