A decade after pioneering the skin positivity movement, Sophie Harris Taylor is wondering what’s changed for the next generation. At first glance, one thing is hard to ignore: the little stars we spot on chins, noses and foreheads. For Sophie, they’re an unacknowledged, quiet, sparkling revolution. Not because of their remedy, but because their commonness makes skin, and grappling with it, no big deal.

For teens, spots aren’t dismissed or degraded, but highlighted, decorated and bejewelled. It’s with this in mind Sophie approached her shoot, going for something constructed rather than quietly documentarian. Shot entirely in natural light inside her own home, the images are not shy. As if the subject was taking a self-portrait. we’re privy to a close, unguarded look at teenage skin.
