How do you photograph a place that hasn't been built yet? For Sekisui House Melrose Park, a brand-new residential suburb in Sydney, Alexandrena was commissioned to create a lifestyle image library that evokes the feeling of living immersed in nature, light and calm. With the development still under construction, the challenge was to create imagery that could emotionally stand in for a place not yet fully realised, capturing atmosphere, possibility and a sense of belonging rather than architecture alone.
Golden light was carefully crafted through interiors to flow seamlessly into warm, sun-drenched exterior scenes, balancing moments of family life, nature and the rhythms of work and play. While the images feel found and effortless, many required an extra layer of planning and intention. The quiet vignette of a ladybug resting on a young girl’s face, for example, involved sourcing the insects through a specialist breeder to create a moment of stillness and serenity that speaks to living closely with nature. Details like these are as vital to Alexandrena’s storytelling as the wider scenes; small gestures, fleeting textures and easily missed moments are elevated alongside broader lifestyle narratives. Together, these vignettes of life form a cohesive visual story, capturing not just how Melrose Park looks, but how it feels to live there.
